Since 1996 the Friends of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery have been helping the City of Langley maintain the cemetery as well as contributing infrastructure that enhances its beauty and function. When the Friends started, the cemetery was in disrepair. Now they can look back on twenty years of a well-cared for and tended cemetery, in a great partnership with the city. Over the years their contributions have included purchasing riding mowers for the City, volunteer mowing the cemetery for five years, planting trees, maintaining the Ash Garden, work parties as needed for cleanup, replacing the garbage huts, trimming the gravestones, controlling invasive plants, and making sure the cemetery is perfect for Memorial Day. In addition, they organize All Soul’s Eve on November 1st, which now draws over 100 people for this annual luminary event of remembrance.
The Friends are deeply grateful for community donations that enable them to fulfill our mission and accomplish their goals. In particular in 2016, they will be continuing our successful efforts in containing the spread of the invasive weed Yellow Archangel. The Friends funds this work, as well as the maintenance of the Ash Garden.
Your contribution to their Operating Fund will help fund the care of the cemetery. Donations are also welcome to their Endowment Fund, which ensures that the cemetery continues to be cared for as the special space it is in our South Whidbey community.
You can send your tax-deductible donation to Friends of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery, PO Box 926, Langley, WA 98260
