All Souls Eve, a community event of remembrance,
is held yearly on the 1st of November at the Langley Woodmen Cemetery,
at the end of Al Anderson Avenue.

This year we are able to hold this event,
but with the following COVID-safe guidelines:
Please wear masks and respect social distancing.

Luminaries will line the cemetery road, as usual,
but this year we are requesting that visitors bring their own luminaries
to place on graves or in an area for loved ones not buried in the cemetery.

We are sorry not to be able to distribute luminaries this year,
but look forward to seeing the creative luminaries that people make.

As the evening progresses, the cemetery will fill
with the light that we all bring.

Come at anytime between 5:00 and 8:00 pm.
Reply email if you would like to help with the event
by setting out luminaries, greeting people (socially distanced!)
or picking luminaries up at the end of the evening.

Twentieth Anniversary of the Friends of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery

cemetery entranceSince 1996 the Friends of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery have been helping the City of Langley maintain the cemetery as well as contributing infrastructure that enhances its beauty and function. When the Friends started, the cemetery was in disrepair. Now they can look back on twenty years of a well-cared for and tended cemetery, in a great partnership with the city. Over the years their contributions have included purchasing riding mowers for the City, cemetery ash gardenvolunteer mowing the cemetery for five years, planting trees, maintaining the Ash Garden, work parties as needed for cleanup, replacing the garbage huts, trimming the gravestones, controlling invasive plants, and making sure the cemetery is perfect for Memorial Day. In addition, they organize All Soul’s Eve on November 1st, which now draws over 100 people for this annual luminary event of remembrance.

The Friends are deeply grateful for community donations that enable them to fulfill our mission and accomplish their goals. In particular in 2016, they will be continuing our successful efforts in containing the spread of the invasive weed Yellow Archangel. The Friends funds this work, as well as the maintenance of the Ash Garden.

Spring work parties after March storms

Come help us clean up the Langley Woodmen Cemetery after the March wind storms!

cemetery entrance  cemetery march storm2016_7062
What a windy March we have had! The Friend of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery had cleaned up the November storm debris and then March came along and clobbered the cemetery.

If you walk through the cemetery during the week, you can help clean up the downfall by piling branches along the side of the road.

On Saturday morning, March 26th, from 10 am – 12 noon, we’ll finish picking up the debris and loading it up to haul away. Bring your gloves and rakes.

By popular request, due to other events on March 26th, the work party will continue if needed on Sunday, March 27th, from 10 am – 12 noon.

Come for as short or long as you can, and help us care for this special place!

Call 360-221-6046 for further information.
